Do I need SSL if I am not selling things?

The short answer is yes.

In July of 2018, Google Chrome started labeling websites "Not Secure" if they were not using https protocol. It's a bit foolish to spend money and time to bring people to your website then have them lose confidence in your company before they even read your message.

There are several ways to get an SSL certificate, with prices ranging from free to several hundred dollars. Installing it on your server is something your server administrator will have to do. The procedure for the installation varies greatly depending on the server management software used.

After your certificate is installed you will need to update any links you have to https//. This will also be a good time to ensure that you are only using one form of your URL. For example

http://www.frankholt.com
http://frankholt.com
https://www.frankholt.com
should all be rewritten to
http://frankholt.com

This can easily be accomplished with a rewrite statement in your .htaccess file by using:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\. [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(?:www\.)?(.+)$
RewriteRule ^ https://%1%{REQUEST_URI} [NE,L,R]
